Hollywood, USA – It’s the eve of what is arguably the United States’ most cherished holiday: Thanksgiving. Although the yearly tradition is a festive celebration of fun, food, family, and friends, it usually marks the beginning of pre-holiday hibernation. However, before nursing those food babies or entering into a food coma, The Standard, Hollywood proposes to pack in a little cardio in preparation for the big meal and its lethargic after-effects.

On November 27th, “Thanksgiving Eve,” the ultra-current hotel chain is hosting its usual Wednesday dance party series, “Desert Nights,” starting at 7:30 pm. This week’s lineup includes Tall Tales & the Silver Lining, Smooth Hound Smith, and Mikel Farber, all performing live in the Cactus Lounge as part of the Standard Sounds program.

In The Purple Passport to Los Angeles, we were smitten by the fashionable scene at this Hollywood establishment:

The Standard, Hollywood not-so-subtly strives to bring in the cream of the sexy Hollywood scene with over-the-top avant-garde elements like lobby “performance art” displays of naked live models posing in glass tanks and DJs spinning nightly at the front desk. Their efforts seem to have paid off: the poolside lounging scene is fierce (bring suitcases full of teeny bikinis) and getting past the velvet rope at the Purple Lounge is still tough. Read more

Dancing the night away with LA’s Young Hollywood set is certainly one way to sit down to Thanksgiving dinner guilt-free! That being said, if you prefer to indulge in the annual feast, skip out on the leftovers and head instead to “Eat Your Words” on Thursday, December 5th, from 8:00-10:00 pm. The storytelling event, also held in The Standard’s Cactus Lounge, is a showcase that provides some “food for thought” without any of the extra calories. Hosted by Greg Walloch, who is affiliated with such organizations as The Moth, USA Network’s Characters Unite, and The Howard Stern Show, next week’s show features speakers ranging from Mia Wasilevich and Pascal Baudar of Urban Outdoor Skill and Wild Food Lab, to Frank DeCaro, author of “The Dead Celeb Cookbook.” Just because one big meal is over doesn’t mean there isn’t room left to nourish heart and soul.
